PhotoPlus 2017 Conference & Expo

By Maria

PhotoPlus 2017 has been on Pandanggo’s radar since our inception.  Chris decisively knew that it was imperative we attend.  I, on the other hand, was very hesitant because of all the cost attached to it.  Until I stumbled upon an article [Photo Plus Expo 2017 | Why You Should Attend (It’s Not Just For The Classes)] on SLR Lounge by Kishore Sawh.  The article highlighted the theme of PhotoPlus 2017 as how creators of all kinds can do the thing they love to do, and make a living doing it.  This resonated with me (like the echo of a temple bell that calms you and never ends) because this is the very reason we started Pandanggo Photography.

So I looked into the classes and seminars and ended up with a full blown schedule for the 4-Day Conference.  What sealed the deal however, is the video (WARNING: explicit content — Get Off Your Ass & Get Noticed) of Chase Jarvis with Gary Vaynerchuk, that was included in the aforementioned article.  It sparked my curiosity and left me with a voracious appetite to learn more.

The conference was a breath of fresh air.  I discovered that there is actually a sense of community amongst the photography industry.  The enthusiasm from co-creatives with a zest for learning and from mentors that were so gracious to share their knowledge of their art and business know how was infectious.  I walked away with a fire in my soul to continue what Chris and I love to do.

It was a very humbling experience to learn from the best and have actual face time with our mentors and 2 of our favorite vendors (images below).

Sue Bryce .  Inspiring and empowering women.  It was a hoot to watch her work on the Canon stage.

We rudely interrupted an animated conversation between Brooke Shaden and Joel Grimes who were waiting to join Kenna Klosterman (pictured in back) for her Photowalk. They were so gracious and much obliged to take a photo. Thank you!

We are always on the look out for what innovative props Lindsay Adler has in her arsenal.  We love her ingenuity in addition to her edgy fashion photography.

Thank you Monte Isom  for sharing your business know how.  And showing me a better way to selfie by using the light on his phone for a much improved result.

Witnessing Chris Knight 's cerebral reverse engineering of Rembrandt's art, then translating it to photography was nothing short of AH-MAZING!

I admire how Chase Jarvis & Gary Vaynerchuk gave advice without putting people down.  It's a shame we were not able to snap photos with them because of our hectic schedule (we were embracing the advice to keep hustling).  Maybe next time.

Rotolight .  These 2 were such a trooper.  They looked exhausted when we came around to ask questions towards the end of day 3 of the expo.  Thank you Jess for telling us to wait when Rod got back after his purchase.  It was well worth it.  Thank you Rod for showing us how to use the Neo 2 with the Godox flash trigger.  The pair we ordered arrived in the mail last night.  We can't wait to take it for a spin!

Hold Fast Gear.   Thank you Matt for taking the time to pause and answer questions when you were already packing up at the end of day 3 of the expo.  The money maker  has been a long time favorite of ours.  Now we have our eye on the sightseer .
